Chicago Celebrates 28 Years On Stage

Author KevinKevin, November 14th, 2024

Anyone for a slice of cake?

Broadway's longest-running musical is celebrating a killer milestone - 28 years on the stage and 11,000 performances. The cast will be marking the occasion in style, as Dylis Cromanas (Roxie Hart), Kimberly Marable (Velma Kelly), Max von Essen (Billy Flynn) and Natasha Yvette Williams (Matron "Mama") Morton will cut a cake right on stage at the Ambassador Theatre - you better watch out for that knife!

About Chicago

As the story of Chicago goes - two fierce women in the roaring 20s are imprisoned for murder and turn their trials into the biggest media sensation Chicago has ever seen. With so much drama, it's no wonder that the show has played in 525 cities across 38 countries and has been seen by more than 34 million people globally.

Right now, there's a Spanish-language tour happening in Spain, English-language tours in China, Eastern Europe, and the UK, and next year, a French version will be heading to Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, and Paris. In the U.S., the tour is razzle-dazzling through next June, with stops planned in Birmingham, St. Louis, San Francisco, New Orleans, and many more cities.

The show, directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking, has that iconic Bob Fosse flair (thanks to his original choreography), with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. It's won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival - let's just say it still has all that jazz!
